My Hello Kitty bathroom; then and now

Last year, when my boyfriend and I moved into our old apartment I had kept on mentioning to him that I wanted to decorate the large second bath with Hello Kitty. One night, when I came home after 2am I walked into that bathroom only to smell fresh wet paint. I flicked on the light switch only to find Hello Kitty everywhere! I was beyond happy and surprised that he would do that for me, I mean come on, how many boyfriends or husbands bust out pink paint and start decorating with Hello Kitties. Here is a picture of the completed project:hellokittybathroom

Now, while I did love the bathroom very much, there’s always room for criticism. Of course, I didn’t blab all of this to him. While I liked the pink painted walls I just hated the blue stripe, it didn’t really match and made the whole room look juvenile. I guess Hello Kitty is pretty much juvenile but I feel there’s ways incorporating her into more mature designs and looks. An example would be the Hello Kitty bathroom I have in the house we live in now.

I think using the Hello Kitty decorations with plain white walls and modern furnishings gives the room a more mature look and adds a pop of color. The Orchid plant I have on the windowsill also helps creating a more adult feel.

I definitely like the new bathroom better. How about you? If you’re planning on creating a Hello Kitty bathroom or any themed bathroom I highly suggest eBay—it’s a lot cheaper! My boyfriend bought all the decorations together for around $50.

  1. Adorable! I think your bathroom is allowed to be over-the-top and girly even if you have a very adult home otherwise. And I LOVE that white cabinet!

  3. I think it’s so sweet that your husband made a Hello Kitty bathroom for you. My husband would sooner jump off a cliff. I agree with you about having a more classy room and then adding touches of Hello Kitty. As much as I love Hello Kitty, I like to keep it subtle. She’s more of a throwback to when I was a 10 year old avid collector, now I’m a young at heart 30-something year old. ;)
